In the early decades of the twentieth century, the mitteleuropean society was increasingly fascinated by the myth of economic rise, while the moralism and the hypocrisy of the middle class besieged the feminine psychological dimension, holding it in a sort of “pedagogy of prohibition” that mortified affectivity and expression of sexuality. Alban Berg’s Lulu runs through this dimension as a tragic shadow, and becomes iconic of the contradiction that tears the female eros to disfigure.
