REPRESENTAÇÕES GEOGRÁFICAS DA IDENTIDADE NACIONAL: O CASO NORTE-AMERICANO
Keywords:
.Abstract
This article relates the image of the conquest of the West to the construction of national identity in the United States. The conquest of new territories during the nineteenth century was narrated as a mythical version of the historic process. It presents different lineages of authors who analyse and criticise the theme of the frontier and shows how the frontier, the west or nature are present in the interpretation of the meaning of the creation of national parks in America. Finally, it indicates how geographical space reappears today, at a moment when globalization and uprooting are questioning the natural relationship between nation and territory.
