Competitividade dinâmica do segmento de termoplásticos

Abstract

The analysis of the Brazilian thermoplastics industry is carried out departing from the neo-scbumpeterian concept of competitiveness. Indicators of performance and effíciency are employed in the diagnosis. This diagnosis is analysed based on the factors present in Porter’s National Diamond (modified). This analysis of the competitiveness factors indicates that the thermoplastics industry achieved international leveis of performance and effíciency during the 80’s. However, the national producers have not accumulated the relevant technological capabilities for fiacing the global dynamics in this area. This situation became more criticai with the policy adopted by the goverment after 1990, that combined internai demand reduction, price policy change and a reestructuring move by means of the privatization program in the petrochemical industry.
