Abstract

A critical view is presented of new criteria of cultural valuation emerging in the United States of the 80's, under the impact of multiculturalism and of the politics of identity. These criteria are used to orient a remapping of North American contemporary culture. This process has implications for what was previously referred to as the Third World, and in particular, Latin America.
