In oil reservoir engineering there is a great interest in solving problems related to the reuse of producing wells, which are in general closed before the end of the concession period of reservoir as the oil production from that well can be no longer economically viable. To do that, in this work we develop an automatic procedure to try to reuse closed producers as injectors for water flooding, from the moment that the well is closed. We developed an automatic procedure based on the optimization process and for reservoir simulation techniques, to find injection and production rates that maximize the Net Present Value of the field. This problem requires repeated numerical simulations, and the necessity of more than one optimization process to find the optimal solution with reused wells, leading to high computational cost can be high. Therefore, sequential approximate optimization strategy (SAO), which is based on surrogate models, is used to circumvent this cost. MATLAB is used as the computational implementation environment. The simulations of the reservoir were made with IMEX, the commercial black oil simulator from Computer Modeling Group (CMG), and the reservoir model used to evaluate the result was the Brush Canyon Outcrop Synthetic.
