EFEITO DA RIGIDEZ GEOMÉTRICA NO COMPORTAMENTO DE VIGA SUPORTE DE MÁQUINAS ROTATIVAS

We present a study on the effect of axial loads upon the geometric stiffness of metal beams supporting unbalanced rotating machinery. It is well known that the natural undamped free vibrations frequencies of mechanical systems depend on their mass and stiffness. On the other hand, the stiffness of slender members may be affected by the presence of large axial forces, due to the so called geometric stiffness. In this paper, we use two different approaches to the analysis: first, with the Rayleigh’s Method and the second, the Finite Elements Method.
