Intrusive practices, practiced by men against women in public spaces in a way that objectifies them, have been studied in their different aspects, contexts and cultures. Despite this, there is still no consensus in the literature regarding a universal term to better define them. This work aimed to carry out a theoretical review of the literature on the phenomenon, in order to defend the use of the term street harassment and propose a definition, considering its limits, possibilities and its understanding from Social Psychology. We emphasize the importance of specifying a definition for an adequate framing of the concept, aiming at scientific analysis and promotion of public policies, in order to promote reduction and prevention of this phenomenon.
