Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of aging on the sensitivity to angular frequencies in photopic luminance (42.6cd/m2). Contrast sensitivity curves were measured in eight adults, from 20 to 29 years old and eight elder people, from 60 to 70 years old by means of the forced-choice method. All subjects were free from identifiable ocular disease and had normal visual acuity. The results showed significant decline of the sensitivity of the older adults group to high and low frequencies. It was concluded that aging might affect the processing of high and low angular frequencies in photopic luminance conditions.
