SUPPORT GROUP OF MOTHERS WITH CHILDREN IN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Abstract
This work tried to minimize the negative feelings of mothers
of children with developmental disorders regarding both their selfconcept
and the infant-mother interaction. This was carried out through
the use of planned group activities. Four mothers, whose age varied between
32 and 38 years, compounded the sample and participated in ten
sessions of occupational therapy activities. The sessions were held in an
occupational therapy clinic maintained by the Federal University of São
Carlos. The results revealed gradual changes in the mothers' attitudes in
relation to the group, to themselves and to their children. It was also observed
an increase in their situation awareness, in the search for ways of solving their difficulties and in their decision-making out of the group situations.
The work restated the importance of using activities as a tool of the
therapeutic process.
