Abstract

This paper addresses Social Psychology's historical difficulty
to find a way to fulfill its main objective: the integration of individual
and society. This objective is shown to have been part of Wundt's global
project for psychology. The discipline, however, for more than one reason
chose to give priority to the study of the individual in detriment of the social.
This general orientation influenced the development of Social Psychology
and hence the criticisms it has suffered. A reaction to this state of
affairs is represented by a "sociological" Social Psychology that brings
home much of Wundt's original project.
