Abstract

The IX Biennial Meeting of the International Society
for the Study of Behavioural Development (ISSBD) took place in
Tokyo, Japan, in July 1987. The conference had been planned to
take place in conjunction with a post-conference workshop on human
development in collaboration with the Chinese Psychological
Society in Beijing, China. The meetings provided the opportunity to
become acquainted with the latest research on human development
not only in Japan and China, but around the world. Moreover,
it allowed a first and extremely interesting contact with these two
fascinating cultures, their history, customs and monuments.
The powerful achievements and potential of the Japanese and Chinese
people and their high scientific and technological investments
in psychological research foretell their future progress in
this area of knowledge.
