A REVIEW OF THE LOGIC - LINGUiSTIC LITERATURE ON THE QUANTIFICATION OF THE LAW OF EFFECT
Abstract
A review of the literature on the quantification of the law
of effect was conducted searching for logically legitimate arguments. It
is concludedthat: (a) Herrnstein's equation is based on a premisewhich
pressuposes the matching principie, and (b) that this pressuposition is
untenable. The matching principie is an empirical statement which is
not deducible from the adopted premises and therefore should be
submitted to empirical test. Reformulations of Herrnstein's equations
are reviewed and it is concluded that BaunYs generalized matching
equation has predictive value.
