A NATURALISTC STUDY OF PRE-SCHOOLERS BEHAVIOR AT MEALTIME
Abstract
The exploratory study aimed to identify the variables
which could be interacting in the lunch situation of pre-school children.
The subjects were ten girls and ten boys, aged three to five years, and
the aduits present during the meai. Behavior data were collected
through direct observation techniques (child behavior) and áudio
recording during two meals at lunchtime in the family home. Mothers
were interviewed before and after the observations. The results
revealed that the children spent most of their mealtime sitting down
and eating, although other behaviors were also identified.
The aduits produced a large number of orders and verbalizations
for the purpose of orienting, informing and helping their children to eat.
