Homeschooling models under the Theory of Regulation

Purpose ”“ The debate about the possibility of introducing the homeschooling, which dates back to the beginning of the 90s in the United States of America (USA), has gained a lot of reverberation recently in Brasil, which has caused the House of Representatives to review the matter. In that context, it has become particularly appropriate to provide that discussion with the results of the previous experiences taken abroad. The present article, therefore, aims to identify the most notorious characteristics of the north American regulatory model, concerning the fifty states; the legal limitations that a hypothetical Brazilian model would have to comply with; and, most of all, what would be the desirable features that such a legal framework would have to comply with, if seen under the perspective of the Responsive Theory of Regulation. As a result, there is the intent of making up a template of what this hypothetical regulation of Homeschooling in Brazil should be.
Methodology/approach/design ”“ The said issue will be investigated thru bibliographic and documental research with a mainly qualitative, but also quantitative, approach.
Findings ”“ To provide a comparative study of some of the main regulatory models of homeschooling and, once found the differences, and, thus, the advantages and disadvantages of each system, present a proposal of a template of homeschooling regulation in accordance with the Responsive Theory of Regulation and Brazilian current law.
