On the Modernity of Liberation and its Contribution to Regulation

Purpose ”“ The purpose of this paper is to seek potential contributions from the point of view of “modernity of liberation” to the development of the theory of regulation.
Methodology/approach/design ”“ As theoretical framework, we consider the elaboration of Immanuel Wallerstein about the concept of modernity as “normality of change” and also the thought of this researcher about two meanings of modernity ”“ modernity of technology and modernity of liberation. Then, the article connects these ideas with the point of view of Dwight Waldo about the relationship between democracy and efficiency, digging into the literature of the fields of political philosophy, sociological and historical theory, public administration and theory of regulation.
Findings ”“ From the point of view of the modernity of liberation, there is an expansion of democracy and a strong concern about the protection of the human rights in regulation, and it is important to ally this moral content to the technical knowledge about regulation.
