The PHILOSOPHICAL VALUE OF MYSTICISM IN HENRI BERGSON

Abstract

The Two Sources of Morality and Religion is a work that stands out for its beauty and depth, where one can breathe the perfume of an atmosphere full of spirituality and mystical aspirations. It is in this work that Henri Bergson proposes what he calls the philosophical value of mysticism, which is directly related to the question of God. The path found by the french philosopher to talk about the existence of God was the path of mysticism. This is, therefore, our objective: to approach the theme of mysticism from a philosophical perspective that considers the mystical experience as a metaphysical experience in which we experience the existence of God internally. What the french philosopher proposes when addressing the issue of the philosophical value of mysticism is that mystical experience can become an aid to philosophical investigation. In bergsonian philosophy, mysticism is introduced as a method that aims to deal with metaphysical issues. In conclusion, we intend to show philosophers that there is a certain experience, called mysticism, to which they can, as philosophers, resort, or at least should take into consideration, when dealing with the question of the existence of God. Bibliographic research is used as a methodology.
