The purpose of this article is to investigate the theme of the God of the philosophers from the interpretation of Cassirer exposed in The Philosophy of the Enlightenment. There, with great astuteness, the thinker points out the importance of the idea of religion and history in the establishment of Christianity as a phenomenon. At the other pole, stating Christianity as an existential decision, Kierkegaard, notably in the Practice of Christianity, seems to make an opposition to this thesis but at the same time, appears to be the result of the same period and, somehow, participant of the same theses.
