Abstract

This work aims to identify how journalistic discourse and reader feedback can serve as empirical sources for a theoretical-methodological approach to questions of language valuation. The Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and Systemic Functional Linguistics approaches subsidize this field of research, which finds support, in the special case of microanalysis, in the interpersonal metafunction
and in the analytical model of Appraisal Systems. The facts narrated by the print media about the homeless, human beings who live in conditions of deprivation and poverty, are almost completely restricted to the police pages, where they lose their ontological essence.
