This article aims to analyze the textbook used in elementary education in private schools, focusing on a Geography book from the 5th grade of the "Sucesso Educational System" Collection, which is used in private schools throughout Brazil. We examine how the teaching of African History, required by Law 10.639/2003, is presented in this book. Specifically, we investigate whether it covers African or Afro-Brazilian geography, analyzing the customs originating from Africa and highlighting their relevance to the present day. We explore the true importance of the black race in the construction of ethnic-racial identity, examining whether the history of Afro-descendant culture is adequately addressed in schools and textbooks, or merely superficially. Furthermore, we assess whether the books depict the social and economic organization that existed/exists within Africa and its true history.
