O Grande Medo do Colapso

Uma atmosfera de medo parece rondar a cultura ocidental na últimas duas ou três décadas. Nela, um medo, de um novo tipo, se expressa imaginariamente no temor de um evento de colapso. Neste artigo, mapeamos algumas manifestações do novo medo do colapso na esfera do cinema e de produções intelectuais acadêmicas. No primeiro caso, com a emergência dos filmes de colapso e de zumbi na indústria cultural; no segundo, na emergência do colapso civilizacional como tema de historiadores, cientistas de sistemas e da complexidade, ecólogos, teóricos do pico do petróleo, economistas, cientistas sociais etc. Conclui-se apontando algumas hipóteses explicativas possíveis que poderiam ser desenvolvidas para se explicar o surgimento deste fenômeno sociocultural.
