Autophotography on the Brazil-Uruguai border: journeys

Abstract

This writing unfolds from the trip taken along the Brazil-Uruguay border during the research project: “Crossings on the Brazil-Uruguay border line: controversies and mediations in the public space of twin cities”. Public free space along these lines makes it possible to understand these alliances in a way that has not yet been explored. Seeking to promote studies that involve urban and social experience in border areas in a heterogeneous way, we intend to understand how this ambiguous space, belonging to two countries, two cultures and two legislations, develops materially and immaterially. Using urban cartography as a methodology, a development of Deleuze-Guattarian cartography, we traveled through the twin cities recording the movements. Part of the route and the process of walking along the border line was accompanied by self-photography, a procedure that deals with the individual and subjective vision of space. In the end, we understand some multiple facets and gaps that can be found in the border line and indicate other possibilities for the project and experience of this symbolic free public space.
