Design in Assistive Technology: paralympic swordplay

This paper presents the conception, design, construction and validation of a new assistive product. The servoassisted fixative for Wheelchair Fencing is an example of symbiogenic approach applied to the interface between the organic and inorganic reality mediated by assistive technologies that aim to supplement or expand the deficit organic features. The Wheelchair Fencing is a sport whose understanding requires deepening one's singularities, requiring an approach that integrates different areas of knowledge for the benefit of athletes who have a lower functional capacity among the categories of this sport. The objective of this research work is to increase the independence and provide safer practice of this sport through the development and construction of servo-assisted fastener that can be triggered by the player himself. This assistive product offers the athlete greater autonomy and security during the fighting, and allows reduction of the operating cost of competitions by removing the need of human assistance in for the attachment and adjustment of the wheelchairs.
