Resumo

A Conferência trata da importância da América Latina e do pensamento crítico latino-americano para a antropologia do Brasil. Pretende também homenagear Roberto Cardoso de Oliveira por seu pioneirismo na atenção concedida a esta região e esse pensamento. Para isso busca mostrar os traços dessa influência em sua trajetória. Mostra ainda a relação entre o pensamento latino-americano e outras tendências contemporâneas, como a crítica ao eurocentrismo (representada na antropologia por Jack Goody), acentuando a sua originalidade.
