The New Freedmen

Abstract

This article analyses the social, economic and political
insertion of a new’social category, the "new freedmen".Originally
used to designate any individual freed by emancipatory decrees in
the Caribbean, the expression here indicates a part of the work
force, dislocated from one productive system to another, within
the context not only of Caribbean social structures but also of
Caribbean insertion in world economy.
