Abstract

Introduction: Alcohol consumption during pregnancy has been research topic fairly well documented, but also many of the same consequences on child development in children of alcoholic mothers are little known in its extent and severity. Objective: To describe the maternal and fetal repercussions of alcohol abuse during pregnancy. Method: This is an integrative review material-based literature has developed, consisting of scientific articles. The literature search was conducted using the key words; Pregnancy; Alcoholism; Alcohol abuse in database Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), within the limits of publication in 2009-2014, in Portuguese. Results: After the combination of the descriptors in the mentioned bases, were identified 50 references. Among these, after selection by title and summary consistent with the purpose of the study, the articles were analyzed in full and included eight articles, thereby excluding 42 articles, either by repeating in databases, either by not contemplate the inclusion criteria. Conclusion: Pregnancy is a facilitator period of sensitization to treatment. If there is preparation by the team, it is exactly this phase that achieves abstinence from alcohol.
