Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • Authors or co-authors must observe a period of 2 (two) years between the publication of an article and a new submission to our journal.
  • Images and photos included in the text must comply with the rules described in the Journal's Model Article (item 2.1 - use of images). Link to the "Artigo Modelo da Revista" under Guidelines for authors in the section below.

Author Guidelines

The Pós - Revista Brasiliense de Pós-Graduação em Ciências Sociais, an academic journal associated with the University of Brasília - UnB, accepts the following types of contributions: 1) Articles; 2) Reviews; 3) Interviews; 4) Conferences; 5) Bibliographical Essays; 6) (Ethno)Photographic Essays; 7) Audiovisual productions; 8) Thematic Dossiers;

The journal publishes works in the field of Social Sciences, submitted by continuous flow, as well as thematic dossiers proposed to the journal by its organizers or by call for proposals, opened by the Editorial Team. Up to 2 (two) thematic dossiers will be published each year (according to article 14, item XXI journal's current statutes).

Submissions must be made by registering on the OJS (Open Journal Systems) platform. 

The work must be original and not be under evaluation by another journal. It can be written in Portuguese, Spanish or English. Relevance for publication will be assessed by the Editorial Team, in accordance with the information provided in About the Journal, especially with regard to affinities with the scope of the journal and conformity with the field of Social Sciences studies.

 

Papers should be sent in word.doc or .docx format, as follows:

  1. A file containing, first of all, the title of the article, the authors' names and degrees, followed by a brief academic curriculum vitae (no more than five lines), and contact information such as e-mail address. In addition, we ask that the authors have a registered ORCID number and that they send this identification with the separate file containing their personal information.
  2. A second file containing the work to be submitted must be written in accordance with the Journal's Model Article produced by the editorial team in the form of an instructional template, updated with the recent changes to the ABNT citation rules. In other words, the text must be in A4 format, Times New Roman font, size 12, 1.5 spacing, top, bottom, left and right margins of 2.5 cm. The title and abstract must be written in Portuguese, Spanish and English. The abstracts must be at least 100 and no more than 250 words long, including the approach of the work, the objectives, the main concepts, the methodology and the results obtained, and must be written in Times New Roman font, size 10, single spaced. Abstracts should be accompanied by 3 to 5 keywords in Portuguese, English and Spanish. Direct quotations of more than three lines should be in Times New Roman font, size 10, with a 4 cm indentation from the text, without quotation marks or italics.
  3.  In order to guarantee anonymity during the evaluation and selection process, the body of the text should not contain any information that would help identify the author, especially the name of the author. References to authorship throughout the text and in bibliographical references should be replaced by (AUTHOR). Anonymity should also be guaranteed by removing any references to authorship in the file, by inspecting the document in File Information in word.
  4. Footnotes must be exclusively explanatory and may not consist of simple bibliographical references or references to websites. Endnotes should not be used.
  5. In the case of texts with photos, the images must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Authors must be familiar with our journal's regulations on the use of images, which are available in our Journal Model Article (item 2.1 Use of images). 

Papers must meet the following standards:  

Articles: should be up to 20 pages long, including abstracts and keywords in Portuguese, English and Spanish, as well as bibliographical references, notes and any annexes.

Reviews: reviews of books, films, documentaries, albums and the like released in the last 5 years will be accepted. Reviews should be no longer than 4 pages.

Interviews: should be up to 15 pages long, including summaries and keywords in Portuguese, English and Spanish, as well as any bibliographical references and notes. They must contain the name of the person interviewed and the interviewer, as well as authorization to publish the content. The interview must be accompanied by a presentation of the person interviewed, highlighting their educational background and contributions to their work.

Conferences: should be no longer than 20 pages, including abstracts and keywords in Portuguese, English and Spanish, as well as bibliographical references. It should contain a brief presentation of the speaker, the context or event in which it was held.

Bibliographical essays: should be up to 10 pages long, including abstracts and keywords in Portuguese, English and Spanish, as well as bibliographical references and notes. They can be critical essays on a single book or on several books dealing with related subjects or on a book from which an author's work is analyzed.

(Ethno-)Photographic Essays: must contain 1) A presentation, in no more than 500 words (doc. or docx. format), containing the title, the author's name, as well as a presentation of the research. 2) Up to 10 photographs, with their respective captions, in a resolution of 300 dpi or more.

Audiovisual productions: a word file (doc. or docx. format) should be sent containing 1) the names of the directors, year of production, format and duration, 2) a presentation of the production of no more than 500 words, and 3) a link to the production already available on the internet (Youtube or Vimeo).

Dossiers: the dossier proposal must have the following format: 1) Be signed by at least 2 (two) organizers, at least one of whom must hold a PhD in any area of the social sciences; 2) Contain at least 6 (six) and at most 8 (eight) pieces, i.e. articles, bibliographical or (ethno)photographic essays, interviews, conferences, reviews and audiovisual productions; 3) At least 2/3 of the pieces must be articles or bibliographical essays; 4) A written proposal of no more than 2 (two) pages explaining the theme of the dossier, as well as a delivery schedule for the pieces submitted; 5) The submission must be accompanied by the following information: name and title of the organizers and authors, as well as a link to their lattes curriculum; 6) It is the responsibility of the organizers of the dossier, at the end of the editorial process, to write a presentation to the dossier of up to 5 (five) thousand characters. The decision to publish the pieces in the dossier is the sole responsibility of the journal's editorial team. The pieces must be submitted to the same processes and criteria as in About the Journal. In addition, the pieces submitted must comply with the journal's submission rules.The evaluation of the pieces will take into account their suitability to the theme of the dossier.The following points will be considered as criteria for approval of the dossier proposal: 1) originality of the proposal; 2) clarity and coherence in the thematic unity of the dossier; 3) suitability for the journal's editorial policy; 4) relevance and topicality for discussion in the Social Sciences.

Guidelines for citations and bibliographical references

Quotations in the body of the text (longer than three lines) must be in the following format: Times New Roman font, size 11, single-spaced and indented 4 cm to the left.

Mentions of author(s) in the body of the text must follow the following models, according to the new changes to ABNT standard NBR10520 of 2023:

Bibliographical references should appear at the end of the text, in alphabetical order, with spacing, punctuation, italics and full details of scientific journals, as in the following examples:
