Abstract

This article deals in a propaedeutic manner with the notion of creativity in Whitehead’s metaphysics in view of three specific purposes. First, it shows the degree in which creativity is a philosophical presupposition implied in current cosmologies that attempt to explain the origin of the universe. Then, it expounds why creativity can be legitimately presupposed only if it is considered in a strict sense, i.e., without also presupposing the other speculative notions of the author as eternal objects and God. Finally, it specifies how even the strict notion of creativity, without advocating Whitehead’s God, preserves also an ultimate religious meaning.
