Human dignity has been accepted as a value throughout history; it has, nonetheless, only acquired a complete and universal meaning in the last century, when its recognition as a universal moral principle for all human beings from the very fact of belonging to the race human (ontological value), has been acknowledged. This base provides the foundation for the development of other moral principles in the field of ethics; for the development of human rights in the field of law; and for respect for life itself, present and future. It is for these reasons that human dignity can be considered as an essential, intrinsic and universal value of human beings; one of the greatest assets of the century, in favor of humanity and the world.
