Brief Essay about the Concepts of Belief and Reason, Science and Religion

Abstract

This text was writ in the format of a didactic essay. I make a brief disquisition about the concepts of belief, faith, reason, science and religion and about the possible relationships that can be exist among these concepts.  The motivation that run through this discussion is the debate between religious thinkers and scientists about these concepts. At end, I present other also brief personal thoughts whose character is episodic, about religion. This presentation is informal and the subject is treated in an elementary level, turned to students. The ideas I present are reasoned, but only as far as the strictly necessary, in virtue of my goals, and the limitation of space. The themes here discussed would require an entire book for a complete study. Even though the majority of the ideas are not original ”“ once all of them can be found in the thoughts of many other authors, of different epochs ”“, I develop these themes in order to express them in a personal point of view. The basic theme, that run through all the essay, is related with a general idea: the very reasons that divide science and religion are a lot more complex than the majority of scientists and religious thinkers know or are willing to explicitly admit, in any debate about these issues, in particular, about the very possibility their conciliation.
