This article deals with the production of a textbook for literacy and support for reading and writing practices in the Xikrín language, under development in schools in the villages of the Xikrín do Cateté Indigenous Territory, located in the municipality of Parauapebas, southeastern Pará, Brazil. The purpose of this article is to present the process of making the book, its content and its application in Xikrín schools. We show that the production of this material has served to promote the status of the Xikrín do Cateté language in the school domain, in which Portuguese has had supremacy as the language of instruction, displacing the mother tongue from the school environment. This is the first textbook made in the Xikrín language, therefore, more than its function in the field of native language teaching in the village schools, the book is an important record of the language - made with the participation of Xikrín teachers - that will integrate the literature collection under construction in Xikrín language.
