Mulheres Solteiras entre os Mekranotí-Kayapó

Resumo

Um dos costumes destacados de vários grupos Jê da América do Sul é a presença de mulheres solteiras que mantêm relações sexuais com os homens da aldeia. Os Borôro (Crocker 1969), os Xerênte (Nimuendaju 1942), os Canela-Timbíra (Nimuendaju 1946) e os Kayapó (Vidal 1977) são todos conhecidos por terem tais mulheres, geralmente descritas como wantons1 por Nimuendaju. Por que as mulheres se encaminham para este “ tipo de vida” nestas sociedades? Numa tentativa de esclarecer esta questão, esta pesquisa visa a fornecer alguns dados sobre estas mulheres na sociedade Mekranotí-Kayapó do sul do Estado do Pará.
