COMPETENCIA Y SU IMPACTO EN LA INVERSIÓN EN REDES DE TELECOMUNICACIONES EN UN ENTORNO DIGITAL

Objetivo ”“ El objetivo del estudio es investigar los determinantes de la inversión en redes fijas de banda ancha y, en particular, evaluar el impacto de la competencia económica sobre la misma. Con tal fin, se presenta un modelo de panel que incluye catorce países, de los cuales cuatro son latinoamericanos.
Metodología ”“ El modelo usa datos trimestrales para el periodo de 2013 a 2018 y se enfoca a determinar la relación entre competencia e inversión, sustentado en la teoría económica y en hallazgos de estudios sobre dicha relación orientada a los países europeos y a Estados Unidos.
Resultados ”“ Derivado de los resultados, se aporta evidencia sobre la existencia de una relación positiva entre competencia y velocidad de los servicios de banda ancha fija. El análisis sugiere que la competencia en servicios, así como la competencia entre redes, son favorables para la inversión de los servicios de banda ancha fija. Así también, la expansión de servicios digitales de entretenimiento audiovisual, la penetración de los servicios de IoT y la mayor penetración de la banda ancha móvil, influyen favorablemente sobre la inversión en redes.
Implicaciones Prácticas ”“ Este resultado aporta información útil para el diseño de política en el sector de las telecomunicaciones, se presentan algunas recomendaciones regulatorias para incentivar la expansión de las redes. Además, aporta información para países que no han sido estudiados en esta materia, específicamente México y otros de la región latinoamericana.
