O Império do Brasil e a Argentina
Abstract
This article analyzes Brazil´s foreign policy in relation to Argentina during the Empire, from 1822 to 1889. The text studies the evolution of relations between these two countries since their conflictive initial moment during the war between the Empire and the United Provinces of the Prata River (1825-1828), passing through the intervention against Juan Manuel de Rosas (1852), their alliance in war against Paraguay (1865-1870) and their rivalry for influence in that country. The article concludes by demonstrating that from the final years of the 1870´s on the Monarchical Brazilian State, entangled in an internal crisis that restricted its diplomatic action in the Prata River, was convinced that Argentina had ceased to be a threat to the independencies of Paraguay and Uruguay.
