On the Wind Effects at the Gama Campus of the University of Brasilia – A Computational Fluid Dynamics Study

Studies regarding the wind flow in urban buildings are expanding due to its relationship with the wind effects on its preservations and for energetic efficiency studies. Understanding wind velocity and directions in a urban region help determine the flow type, its actions and effects. Computational Fluid Dynamics is a useful tool for this kind of study, where one can generate a computational model of the region. The present work proposes the computational study of the wind flow at the region of the Gama Campus of the University de Brasília, to identify flow topologies and observe the behavior of flow variables. The velocity and Turbulent Kinetic Energy profiles were studied for winds coming from the South-southeast direction. The obtained results showed the formation of recirculation zones in determined areas of the campus.
