Abstract

A revision of foreign studies on information needs is presented. The authors point out that the subject is difficult to define and present the concept of information needs as an information seeking behavior. Furthermore it is stated that the goal of using documentation and information is the solution of problems. They suggest a broader view of the subject where information needs should be integrated to others basic human needs i. e. physiological, afective and cognitive needs. Studies on information needs should always relate to their usefulness in every-day life and to the user’s environment.
