Brooding on the practice of cataloging

Abstract

Actually, cataloging can be viewed as a fundamental activity for the bibliographic information systems and their interchange, chiefly as a sharing of resources. The bibliographic record and its parts may present different approachs in the item representation, making difficult the necessary compatibility among systems. Cataloging practice is discussed on main access point, margins, authority files for corporate entities and literary kinds, as levels for description and their elements. Proposed changes could bring better bibliographic records, stronger networks and systems, and, speacially, resources and time saving.
