Analysis and evaluation of the performance by the information professionals at the Central Library of the State University of Maranhão (UEMA), and of the services provided by them. Data collecting and analysis techniques were adopted when approaching the information professionals, while the questionary technique was adopted when dealing with the students and teachers.. It was found that the majority has been working for about twenty years as information professionals and service providers at the Central Library. Regarding the services provided, they were estimated of reasonable quality by the majority of respondents. As for professional qualifications, they considered themselves skilled in the task of normalizing academic works and lending, but scarcely motivated, ill-trained and inexperience as other types of services are concerned.
