Abstract

The SABI Libraries' Network, managed by the Brazilian Senate, started in 1972, when its first data base was developed. In 1975, it was restructured in order to allow the participation of other libraries. Nowadays, 17 institutions are engaged in a cooperative work. Its main objective is to serve the National ' Congress, incorporating information available in some libraries and which are relevant to the Legislative Power. The libraries interested in joining the network are selected taking into account their collection, personnel and equipment. The main benefits in being part of the network are the cooperative cataloguing and indexing, and the production, among other items, of bibliographies and catalogs.
