Abstract

The subject of this article is information technologies and their use by society nowadays. The impact of this technology on some main social indicators as education, employment and welfare state is discussed, either on individual and societal level. Human being needs are presented as the main factor for the development and use of information technologies, political and cultural aspects of its use are focused. The role of information professionals in society is superficially discussed based on the previous approach of the social impact of information technologies on education and employment.
