Politics and reading rooms: socialists found their first libraries in Buenos Aires city -1894-1899

Abstract

This article inquires about historical and library-related aspects of the Buenos Aires socialists groups' early attempts to create reading rooms in the decade of 1890. The primary source of information considered is the newspaper "La Vanguardia". Special attention is given to the following institutions: Biblioteca del Centro Socialista Obrero, Biblioteca del Centro Socialista de Estudios y "Biblioteca Obrera".
