Abstract

The purpose or this article is to study problems related to the massive amount of current records, loosely organized, in Brazilian public administration. The experiences in processing these holdings in Brazil are few and frequently follow some staff orientation rather than established policies. There is no consolidated methodology which would allow the application of concepts and principles in archives organization internationally established. It is noticed that to understand the problem in question one should consider more than strictly technical aspects: peculiarities of the Brazilian governmental apparatus, the instability or its institutions, the low qualification level or its staff are elements that help explain the question.
