Abstract

A definition of organizational intelligence is given in the context of the Information Society. A theoretical framework is proposed for environmental scanning, based on the theory of the organizations, on concepts of uncertainty and ambiguity, on information and knowledge management and on competitive intelligence. The cycle of organizational intelligence and its adaptive behavior is discussed. The conclusion is that the paradigm of the Information Society bears implications which ask for new theories, new mental models, and new capabilities to transform chaotic data into useful information. In this context, the development of the organizational intelligence starts to take over a fundamental role so that the organization may meet the challenges of the new environmental components.
