Sistema de Bibliotecas de Pernambuco

Abstract

The Public Library System of the State of Pernambuco originally written by Myriam Gusmão de Martins, 1972, received the sponsorship of UNESCO and of national, regional and local funding institutions (INL, SUDENE, MOBRAL, etc.). It aims at developing the public library system in the state of Pernambuco to perform the function of a real cultural center as well as to coordinate a network of school libraries in this state. Of the existing 164 municipaties only 119 have public libraries and de Public Library Presidente Castelo Branco (Recife, Brazil) is the coordinating body of the System with 11 regional agencies (DERE) aimed at facilitating the control of operations. Bibliobuses, central cataloguing, training of auxfliat librarians are, among others things, achievements of the system
