MADNESS ON THE ROUTE OF CARTESIAN DOUBT AND THE FOUCAULTIAN OBJECTION

In this paper, we will deal with the question of the mention of the madmen made by Descartes in the First Meditation. This, from the reconstruction of natural doubt to the point where the dream argument is displayed. This reconstruction will support our main purpose which is to review the notion of exclusion that Foucault, in the book History of Madness, attributes to the relationship between the argument of madness and the argument of dream, and his objection to and his objection to Descartes' non-use of madness as one of the reasons for doubting. We propose the hypothesis that Descartes does not proceed to the experience of madness, and passes from this to the experience of the dream due to the greater scope that the constant possibility of dreaming grants at the moment of doubt of the senses. Finally, we will outline our conclusion demonstrating that the relationship between the argument of madness and the argument of the dream is not of exclusion, but of continuity.
