Abstract

This work aims to discuss, in a non-exhaustive manner, the main problems addressed by Aristotle in the first three books of Nichomachean Ethics. The purpose of this article is to show why the human being may be considered responsible for its own happiness (eudaimonía). Thus, the relation between the concept of eudaimonía and the concept of ethical virtue (aretḗ) from the problems exposed in books I and II, such as the process of learning of virtues and the link between luck and eudaimonía, is primarily investigated. Lastly, this work proposes to examine the themes present in book III, mainly the connection between the development of moral virtue and moral responsibility is examined.
