Heródoto e a Miragem Espartana
um estudo sobre a caracterização dos reis de Esparta nas Histórias

Desde La Mirage Spartiate de F. Ollier (1933), os acadêmicos focados na Esparta antiga têm tomado cuidado com as imagens pintadas pelos historiadores sobre a cidade e seus cidadãos. Entretanto, é notável que a obra de Heródoto tenha recebido uma atenção apenas circunstancial nesse quesito. Tentando preencher minimamente tal lacuna, esse artigo analisa como o Pai da História pinta seus reis, indivíduos-chave na sociedade espartana. Desse modo, podemos notar quais elementos da chamada “miragem espartana” já estão presentes no discurso de Heródoto, algo que, quando articulado ao contexto das Histórias, se mostra uma parte integrante de um de seus debates: qual a melhor politeia, o melhor nomos? Esparta, mesmo representando um termo de comparação, não era tão perfeita quanto se proclamava.
