Based on the ethnographic research carried out between 2017 and 2018, in which seven Haitian students were observed at the Federal University of Santa Maria aiming to interweave their perspectives on Brazilian race relations with their trajectories. The guiding question of the research is: what are the interpretations of Haitian students about race relations in Brazil and how do they elaborate on these interpretations. It was noticed that there are two explanatory elements of its interpretations: the social memory on the Haitian independence and the experience of the diaspora before the arrival to Brazil.
