Abstract

Esse texto versa sobre a relação entre o desenvolvimento e a emergência de movimentos sócio-religiosos entre povos indígenas no Brasil. A pesquisa que subsidia esse trabalho foi realizada entre meados das décadas de 80 e 90, durante a implantação de programas e projetos de desenvolvimento na AmazoÌ‚nia oriental, mais especificamente no centro-sul maranhense. Os desdobramentos desse processo ainda se fazem sentir junto aos grupos indígenas e aos segmentos regionais ali localizados.
