Abstract

In Catalan sociolinguistics, ecolinguistics emerged early on and has recently undergone considerable development. The article briefly reexamines the history of this sphere of linguistics and the main areas of interest stemming from it. These areas are based on the adaptation of the epistemological model of ecology to sociolinguistics, with the adoption of concepts such as ecosystemor emergency and with a criticismof mechanical and analytical conceptions, being replaced by a holistic perspective. They are also based on the acceptance of certain proposals from ecology such as conservation and diversophilia. Finally, other areas are mentioned, such as ecological analogy in discourse analysis.

Author Biography

Pere Comellas-Casanova, Universitat de Barcelona - Grup d’Estudi de Llengües Amenaçades

Diplomado em Biblioteconomia e Documentação (1986), licenciado em Filologia Portuguesa (1997) na Universidade de Barcelona, onde se doutorou no ano 2005 com uma tese sobre Representações linguísticas no ensino secundário. Traduziu várias obras literárias para o catalão e para o espanhol, especialmente de literaturas africanas em língua portuguesa, autores como Germano Almeida, José Eduardo Agualusa, Mia Couto o Paulina Chiziane. No ano 2005, ganhou o V Prémio Giovanni Pontiero pela tradução para o catalão de Chiquinho, do autor cabo-verdiano Baltasar Lopes. Publicou artigos relacionados com as a reflexão sobre a tradução e com a diversidade linguística. É autor do livro Contra l'imperialisme lingüístic (2006). Tem colaborado com o ecolinguistas brasileiros há muito tempo.
