Abstract

This article is a brief review of the main characteristics and parameters of safety and protection of a nuclear reactor. For this purpose, the context of the general principles of the subject is preliminarily developed, in order to specifically address the concept of defense in depth and multiple barriers, with emphasis on the physical barriers of the reactor. Next, the descriptions and implications of known nuclear accidents are addressed with the aim of relating them to the parameters described initially.
